Once I was satisfied the apps were testing with no problems, I used Xcode to create a build for submission to the App store. That is really just a matter of changing some settings and hitting “go”. Xcode takes care of packaging things up and transmitting them to Apple. If I weren’t doing my own builds, this is another thing the programmer would have done on my behalf – using the signature files I would have provided. This is also the time when I entered in my product description in iTunes Connect and set the pricing levels. From that point it was just a matter of waiting for approval by Apple. Quick Rhythm was approved in less than a week. Asanamix was sent back for an adjustment after about a week and a half. When I re-submitted it, it took a bit less than a week to gain final approval. Then my apps were up in the App Store and I switched to the tricky job of promoting them.
Feedback and Learning More
I hope that you found this article helpful, whether you’re thinking of commissioning a mobile app or any other programming project. It was a good experience for me, and I would not hesitate to use Elance again. As I mentioned many times, I think that a key to my success was the heavy investment in planning and preparation. Without that, I think that it would have been a challenge to get a good finished product with the distant working relationships.
